African Shark Expedition

Hi All,

Our team from the South African Shark Conservancy is planning a research and outreach expedition, focused on sharks, over a 1.5 month period from December 2020. The overarching goal is to collect snapshot baseline data on the occurrence, distribution and habitat use of sharks, rays, skates throughout the southwest Indian Ocean region, from Cape Town to Madagascar (at least). We will use baited remote underwater video, telemetry, and diver surveys during the expedition, and will open legs of the expedition up to citizen scientists to help fund the trip. If anyone is interested in joining the research team, or has specific data they would like collected, I would love to hear from you. We are really in the infancy of planning, but I thought I would open up a discussion to determine if anyone would like to collaborate.
