Biography

Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Marine and Fisheries Sciences (IH.SM) at the University of Toliara.

Why did you decide to join WiMS?

I decided to join Women in Marine Science (WiMS) because it offers valuable opportunities to meet and connect with other women scientists who face same challenges as you. These exchanges are a true source of inspiration and encourage me to take my career further. Being part of WiMS allows me not only to expand my network but also to be part of a dynamic international community where we support and promote the role of women in marine sciences.

Each of the members of the Steering Committee (SC) are appointed for 3 years. What would you like to achieve during your time in the SC?

I aim to create an online platform during my term on the Steering Committee to facilitate member interaction, resource sharing, and mutual support. This platform could include thematic discussion groups on key topics such as work-life balance and funding. Additionally, I would like to develop collaborative projects, including ocean awareness campaigns. Organizing networking events would also be a priority, helping to strengthen connections between members and fostering a close-knit and supportive community

Why should women marine scientists join WiMS?

By becoming a member of WiMS, you will join a community where you can expand your professional network, access valuable training and mentorship opportunities, and connect with like-minded women who understand your challenges. This network offers a unique platform to collaborate, share knowledge. It is also an opportunity to empower others, to mentor and inspire the next generation of female marine scientists.

Do you have any advice for young women planning to pursue careers in marine science?

My advice to young women who want to pursue careers in marine science: don´t be afraid to dream big or differently, because it could make a difference tomorrow. Explore new paths and let your unique perspective guide you. The ocean is vast and full of possibilities, so dive in and make your mark. Don´t let societal expectations for women or any obstacles limit your potential. After all, who runs the world? Women in Marine science.
