Biography

Why did you decide to join WiMS?

I am deeply passionate about marine sciences and empowering women in the field, particularly within the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region and Mozambique. WiMS represents a crucial platform for fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development amongst exceptional women scientists. Joining the Steering Committee as a Country Representative provides a unique opportunity to contribute directly to WiMS’ mission and amplify the voices of  Mozambican women in marine sciences shaping the future of marine research in the WIO region.

Each of the members of the SC are appointed for 3 years. What would you like to achieve during your time in the Steering Committee?

During my tenure on the Steering Committee, I will be committed to actively building a robust network for women marine scientists in the Western Indian Ocean, with a particular focus on strengthening the network within Mozambique. To achieve this, I plan to work collaboratively with fellow committee members to develop targeted outreach programs, mentorship opportunities, and networking events that connect and empower women across Mozambique and in the WIO region. Additionally, I am passionate about increasing the visibility of WiMS and the incredible work of women marine scientists. I plan to leverage social media platforms and other communication channels to share our achievements and inspire future generations of ocean enthusiasts.

Why should women marine scientists join WiMS?

WiMS offers an invaluable space for women scientists to connect, collaborate, and share their expertise. It is a platform to learn from experienced professionals, gain access to resources, and amplify the collective impact of our research on regional and global ocean conservation efforts. Joining WiMS empowers you to become a leader in your field, inspire the next generation, and contribute to a more inclusive and dynamic marine science community.
