Why did you decide to join WiMS?
My island is one of the smallest on the continent of Africa with the population of around 50 000 with less women interested in marines’ sciences structures. My interest from young age has been to support my local communities around climate change issues. I have observed with progression the changes due to climate change globally with the macro effects on biodiversity on my island. Through these histories I found myself interested to join among the large marine’s association with a unique women scientist’s platform. This regional association will give me opportunities to address the local climate change challenges and raising awareness for the communities how better we can co-benefits in protecting and restoring our coastal and marine’s ecosystems.
What would you like to achieve during your time in the Steering Committee?
In my tenure as the Comorian representative (Vice President) in the Steering committee of the association, I will ensure women and young generation interested in the marine’s sciences education and have increasing the research with Scientifics projections and analysis.
Why should women marine scientists join WiMS?
Having ambitious career in marines’ sector as a woman, my advice to the young generation is to be focused and have a clear objective of what you want to achieve and the person you want to be in the future. You can do anything you want with high performance and only hard work pays. The increasing of the women performance in the marines’ sectors will ensure to develop our countries in the WIO region and be model to others region to learn from us.
Do you have any advice for young women planning to pursue careers in marine science?
As, saying a woman educated it is all the family educated, with WIOMSA/WiMS an educated woman is the leader of tomorrow in the blue economy areas.
