Sarah is a founding member of the Science Cafe team in Mombasa. Her passion lies in delivering science through innovative ways such as art, and nurturing peaceful and sustainable communities that ensure healthy oceans and healthy people. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D in Development Studies at the Technical University of Mombasa where her research work examines fisheries conflict. Based out of the Kenyan coast, she has previously led adult education and livelihood enhancement for women and youth groups; experiential learning for children with special needs and supported implementation of a regional billfish research project.
Sarah envisions the WiMS Network as a lively and committed community of women and girls who collaborate to advance science and policy during this Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. She is keen on promoting visibility for WiMS and its members and supporting real life and technical knowledge exchanges. She sees the WiMS Kenya Chapter as an inclusive, diverse and secure environment that fosters intergenerational and interdisciplinary partnerships beyond Kenya’s borders. Sarah is excited about the 13th WIOMSA coming to Kenya and looks forward to the opportunities it opens for WiMS members for meaningful engagement and collaboration with counterparts from across the WIO.
