Network of Women in Marine Science

Join the WiMS Womentoring Program as a Womentee!

The Network of Women in Marine Science (WiMS) is delighted to launch the  WiMS Womentoring Program, a 6-month pilot mentorship initiative designed to connect passionate women with experienced mentors across the Western Indian Ocean region.

This program is open to students, interns, early-career scientists (within 5-10 years of their highest degree), and those returning to the field—all of whom must be current WIOMSA members. If you are eager to grow, expand your network, and gain insights from established professionals, this opportunity is for you!

Being part of the WiMS Womentoring Program comes with many benefits:

  • Grow with Guidance– Receive career support and mentorship from experienced marine science professionals.
  • Expand Your Network – Connect with peers and mentors across the region.
  • Build Confidence – Set career goals, develop key skills, and explore new opportunities.
  • Be Inspired– Learn from the experiences of others while sharing your own journey.

How the Program Works

  • Structured Mentorship– Womentees are matched with mentors based on shared interests and professional goals.
  • Monthly Meetings– The program kicks off in April 2025, followed by regular 30-minute to 1-hour virtual or in-person sessions. It concludes with a reflections & feedback session at the WIOMSA 2025 Symposium taking place on 28th September to 4th October.
  • Ongoing Support – Participants will have access to resources and check-ins to make the most of their mentoring experience.

You don’t need to have everything figured out—just bring your curiosity, openness, and motivation to learn. Join a supportive network of women committed to empowering one another in the marine science field.  Sign up here!
