Deadline extended: Adapting the “Risk and Negative Side Effect Assessment in Conservation Projects” Tool to Marine Management Contexts in the Western Indian Ocean

The Network for Women in Marine Science (WiMS) is committed to developing the capacity of female members of WIOMSA). At the 13th WIOMSA Symposium, WiMS will be hosting a workshop on Risk and Negative Side Effect Assessment in Conservation Projects on 27th and 28th September 2025. The workshop builds on the two webinars – “Equality in the Western Indian Ocean Blue Economy: For ALL Women and Girls” and “From Margins to Mainstream: Inclusive Structures in Ocean Governance in the Western Indian Ocean” that were held in March and June, respectively.

This call is for workshop participants drawn from research projects/ institutions, government entities, the non-governmental sector, and community initiatives. Interested individuals should submit applications detailing why they should be considered.

Additionally, interested participants should:

  • Have working knowledge of English
  • Have an institutional recommendation for participation
  • Be committed to using the tool after the training and providing feedback
  • Have case studies to which they can apply the tool

Given that the workshop will only cater for training resources and refreshments, participants must also meet the following criteria:

  • Be registered to participate in the WIOMSA symposium
  • Have their travel and associated costs to and from the symposium covered
  • Make arrangements to be available on both 27th and 28th September 2025
