In a series of posts the coming weeks we will introduce you to the member of the Steering Committee of the Network of Women in Marine Science (WiMS). Today its time to introduce you to S R Nashreen Banu Soogun. Nashreen is the Country Representative for Mauritius in the Steering Committee and she is also the team leader for the WiMS team planning WiMS activities during the 11th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium. Nashreen is the Environment Officer at the Department of Environment in Mauritius.
Why did you decide to join WiMS?
As a women working in marine science, I want to share my experience and learn from others.
Each of the members of the SC are appointed for 3 years. What would you like to achieve during your time in the Steering Committee?
I want to assist in WiMS activities and promote WiMS amongst women scientists in my country.
Why should women marine scientists join WiMS?
To enhance networking of women in marine sciences.
Do you have any advice for young women planning to pursue careers in marine science?
Marine science is a challenging field. There are so many things yet to be discovered. If you are really dedicated, are ready for challenges, like research, enjoy working in the marine environment, then, this is a field in which you should pursue your career.
