In a series of posts the coming weeks we will introduce you to the member of the Steering Committee of the Network of Women in Marine Science (WiMS) . First up – Ms. Rebecca Loustau-Lalanne. Rebecca is the representative from the WIOMSA Board of Trustees in the Steering Committee and she works as the Principal Secretary to the Vice President’s office of the Republic of Seychelles.
Why did you decide to join WiMS?
I’m inspired to support the empowerment of women and help expand the networks available to women.
Each of the members of the SC are appointed for 3 years. What would you like to achieve during your time in the Steering Committee?
To have WIOMSA policy and meetings more supportive to women and their needs.
Why should women marine scientists join WiMS?
To link up with a wider network of women in the aim to support each other as we progress our careers and ambitions of leaving a better world behind for our children.
Do you have any advice for young women planning to pursue careers in marine science?
Don’t give up, find a mentor, work hard and ask for help when needed, it’s not a sign of weakness.
